"How to Achieve Good Emotional Wellness and Plan for the Future"
In the recent talk held at the Institute of Lifelong Learning, Dr Tan Hong Yee joined Gastroenterologist Dr Vincent Lai and Financial Advisor Mr Lee Wei Meng in presenting the importance of staying healthy, and planning for the future.
During the talk, Dr. Tan discussed role transitions as we progress from one stage of life to another, and its impact on our emotional health. More importantly, he also went through the signs and symptoms of common emotional health conditions such as depression and anxiety, and practical steps to take in order to reduce the risk of developing these conditions. These include tips on caring for ourselves emotionally, sleep hygiene and adequate planning to reduce stress in the future.
Planning for the Future
One major aspect of emotional health involves being able to plan for your future. During the talk, Dr Tan touched on the concept of mental capacity, and the importance of planning ahead using the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). We were delighted to participate in the Q&A session, where members of the audience asked important questions ranging from the current psychiatric health landscape in Singapore to practical questions on applying for an LPA.
This was followed by a session by Mr Lee Wei Meng from Financial Alliance, who gave a comprehensive view on the importance of wills and the testamentary laws in Singapore.
