Steven has been active for 10 years in the local mental healthcare landscape. After two years as a full-time school counsellor for 2 years at a secondary school, he worked as a clinical psychologist after completing his Masters training in Singapore for 8 years. This period was spent largely at the Ministry of Social and Family Development followed by a brief stint in a private medical group.

At present, he helps persons with negative emotion experiences (e.g., depression, anxiety, insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder), compulsive thoughts/behaviour that can harm self and others (e.g., obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger and aggressive behaviour; sexual preoccupation and acting-out such as voyeurism, exhibitionism, fetishism), impulse control difficulties (e.g., stealing, addiction behaviours), and those struggling with eating or body image issues (e.g., eating disorders). This involves concepts and techniques drawing on evidence-based approaches such as Applied Behaviour Analysis, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Schema Therapy.

Besides clinical assessment that includes testing of cognitive ability and social skills functioning, Steven is experienced in performing certain medico-legal assessments (e.g., parenting capacity or child placement, psychological impact of road traffic accidents).

Just come as you are; Steven adopts a person-centred, compassion-focused, and nonprejudicial stance towards you and the issues you face. He can help even if you (or your dependent) may be unkeen on treatment (Motivational Interviewing). This requires him to work alongside the client’s family and relevant stakeholders (e.g., Family Service Centres, teachers, employers) for a holistic and systemic perspective. His goal is to work collaboratively with you to make sense of your difficulties, own and accept all that you are, and embrace your values in building long-term solutions to your issues (Acceptance Based and Commitment Therapy).

Steven  is fluent in English, and moderate in his use of Mandarin.
